Case Study
The Institute of Domestic Energy Assessors or ” IDEA ” is a large, national non-for-profit organisation. The chief exec was my point of contact and we liaised very closely on this, me even working out of their offices on the project.
IDEA branding reflects the scale colours of what is known as an energy performance certificate. A clever idea as it links in directly with what the company is all about.
The colours used in the website follow mainly a blue theme, but also as stated above, reflect the colours found on an energy performance scale.
Alongside the website, I produced brochures, membership packs, leaflets, business cards, corporate stationery, lapel badges and more.
The website is a fairly simple front-end website aimed at ease of use. Behind the initial UI, however, there are a lot of dynamic features.
The first feature being what we called “Find an IDEA Member”. This feature enabled members of the public to come onto the website and find an energy assessor local to them. This sub-site is written fully in PHP and MySQL. It is dynamically driven and follows the IDEA colour scheme. A picture can be viewed below or the live site can be found HERE.
The second feature being a fully-functioning membership community website and forums with over 2000 members at peak. The forum system is run on licensed vBulletin software. I created a custom theme and directory turning the forum system into an entire membership sub-site. I also created a customer registration script to hack the original script gathering more information, creating a custom interface and enabling an online card payment system. This sub-site contains newsletters and other such things.
The third feature as briefly mentioned above, is the Newsletter feature I produced for the company. A newsletter is sent out roughly once a month but often more. I had to create a newsletter template to match the company and look professional. I also had to develop a system in which the newsletter can be sent out with ease to the 2000 members and overall 8000 mailing list!
This website is probably one of the more extensive projects as there is an aspect of every service I offer in there. I also fully managed and looked after the community of over 2000 members.
